Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (TEVAR)
It is the largest diameter of opening artery, issued by the heart and passing through the chest, it can be divided into the ascending aorta, aortic arch, and descending aorta. At the aortic hiatus in the diaphragm where it becomes the abdominal aorta. Normally it is about two centimeters in diameter tubular structure.
When the thoracic aorta expands abnormally like balloon, the thoracic aortic aneurysm will be formed.
The hazard is that if the volume of aneurysm becomes larger, it balloons the aneurysm and it may rupture. Death will be caused by severe bleeding once it ruptures.

By the end of 2006, the Health Department approved the licenses of thoracic aortic aneurysm stent graftdevice, the Cardiovascular Surgery departments of Linkuo Chang Gung Memorial Hospitals and Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital have performed this new medical technology based on their great experiences of endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair as soon as the licenses have been approved. It has become one of the routine options for patients who have needs. Patients can visit cardiovascular surgery department of these two hospitals for consultation and evaluation.
Currently most of thoracic aortic diseases can be resolved by aortic stent graft.
Thoracic aortic stent graft may be used in descending thoracic aortic aneurysm, traumatic aortic aneurysm, descending aortic dissection (stripping), and some infectious aortic aneurysm now.
This technology can be applied to reduce the invasiveness.
